"Ted is a motivated self-starter who is capable of translating project goals into success. Ted is an excellent communicator with diverse audiences."
"Ted has been a treasured partner to the YMCA, providing insightful and impactful training sessions guidance and information that has strengthened our organization's resolve to build a more just and equitable organization. We recommend Ted with confidence!"
"The knowledge, professionalism and engagement Ted provided in our Professional Development was as effective in a whole group atmosphere (200+ staff) as well as in small groups. Ted makes it real, relatable, informational and engages its audience into not only understanding the issues at hand but deeper learning that makes it personal and shows the participants the importance of the role they play in an LGBTQIA+ student's life."
"Ted's ability to pull back the blinders and work with a group of people that contain all levels of leadership, different views on LGBTQ+ issues and varying levels of interest on the subject matter is above par. Ted has worked with faith-based leaders, who are not sure how or if they can support the LGBTQ+ community."
"As an educator for adult learning, Ted's confidence, depth of knowledge, and relatability conveyed so well that many educators described their time with Ted as the best professional development they'd ever had. Ted's advocacy for not only LGBTQ+ folk, but for diverse and intersectional identities as well is a model of how to approach equity within an organization!"
"Having attended many keynote speeches, I have rarely seen a speaker who was able to pivot so readily between personal narrative and professional insight in such a way incorporating humor while tackling difficult contemporary issues related to LGBTQ+ communities."
"In 2017, Mosaic, Altria’s LGBTQ employee resource group, conducted a survey to measure employee satisfaction of LGBTQ employees compared with the broader population. The results showed startling differences. When asked if they feel comfortable being themselves at work, 82 percent of the broader population agreed; however, only 33 percent of LGBTQ employees felt the same. And when asked if they thought senior leadership is supportive of having a diverse workforce containing LGBTQ employees, only 40 percent of LGBTQ employees agreed, versus 80 percent of the broader employee population. "
- Altria's 2018 Corporate Responsibility Progress Report
With the support of Ted Lewis through their work at Side by Side, Altria's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, Mosaic, created a menu of opportunities for employees to learn and grow and ultimately shift the culture. This included LGBTQ+ 101 Trainings for team members from the CEO to summer interns led by Ted and trained facilitators who were leaders within Mosaic.
Creating space for LGBTQ+ employees to be out and proud with their identities shifted the culture within the organization to one of openness, acceptance, and opportunity for continued deep dialogue around differences. Many employees found the courage to come out publicly at work and join Mosaic taking on leadership roles within the company. Within just one year the same survey that initially identified gaps in experiences between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ employees found those gaps "essentially closed."
